Renton, in King County is 11 miles southeast of Seattle and straddles Lake Washington and the Cedar River. The area began life as a logging site that diversified into salmon fishing, coal mining and clay production. The modern Renton has moved into technology and service industries.
Renton is most popularly known for building aircraft. Around 40 percent of all commercial aircraft begin life at Boeing’s massive plant on the edge of town. Over 10,000 people work there and in supporting industries spread around the area. Other businesses also use Renton as their base as the I-5, I-405 and SR 167 all converge on the town.
Local highlights include Jimi Hendrix’s grave in Greenwood Cemetery, Riverview Park, Black River Riparian Forest and Wetland, Cedar River Park and Carco Theatre.
