Entertainment in Atlanta
In a city like Atlanta where there is always something going on, it’s difficult to suggest only a few entertainment venues to spend your time. With several hundred venues, districts, festivals and events to choose from, picking the top ones is almost impossible.
We have selected a range of the top attractions we think any visitor to our city should try. It is only a tiny portion of what there is to do, but we think each is definitely worth a visit.
ATLANTA BRAVES AT TURNER FIELD
The Atlanta Braves play at turner field from April through September and come with all the fanfare our greatest game can produce. The field itself is worth a visit whether a game is on or not. The Braves Museum and Hall of Fame is certainly worth the trip.
ALLIANCE THEATRE COMPANY
The Alliance Theatre Company is one of the country’s largest theater companies. They provide a wide range of diverse performances and also play host to national stars. If you like a bit of culture in your life, this is the place to find it.
ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN
The Atlanta Botanical Garden is something completely different but is well worth a visit even if you aren’t horticulturally-minded. The 30 acres of gardens is a delight. There is also a 10,000 square foot orchid center and a canopy walk 40 foot off the ground so you can see a bird’s eye view of the garden.
ATLANTA HISTORY CENTER
The Atlanta History Center is a huge complex spread over 32 acres. It includes gardens, woodland, the Tullie Smith Farm, Swan House Mansion and includes exhibitions on the Civil War, African-American heritage, and Southern folk art. There is also a large area set aside for celebrating our hosting of the Olympic games.
CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK
As the name suggests, Centennial Olympic Park was the home of the 1996 Olympic Games and features the world’s largest Olympic ring fountain. There is always something going on here that include festivals and concerts as well as ad-hoc performances.
GEORGIA AQUARIUM
The Georgia Aquarium shows you another world while not leaving the city. The aquarium is one of the largest of its kind in the world and is home to hundreds of thousands of sea creatures spanning hundreds, if not thousands, of species.
ATLANTA SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA
The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is a multi-Grammy award winning orchestra that play at the Woodruff Arts Center. Even if you’re not a fan of classical music, these guys play the widest range of sets you can imagine, making the orchestra accessible to people of all tastes.
