Thanks to an excellent position near the Rocky Mountains and a huge swathe of National Parks and National Forests, a lot of Denver life is lived outdoors. The gentle climate with lots of sunshine doesn’t hurt either!

Colorado’s commitment to preserving as much of our countryside as possible has results in huge tracts of land being turned into National Parks. There are also a huge range of other venues where you can enjoy a whole range of outdoors activities, from canoeing, skiing to mountain climbing.

Snow Sports

The fact that Denver is so close to the mountains means snow sports are very popular with residents. Colorado has some of the best snow in the world and four of our resorts feature in the US Top Ten destinations every year.

Whether you like skiing, snowboarding, trekking, sledging or tobogganing, you can do it here in some of the best facilities in the world.

Hiking

Hikers are equally well-served all year round. The National Parks all have hiking trails, as does the mountains and a host of other areas. There are literally hundreds of miles of trails for you to hike.

Enjoy Castlewood Canyon State Park, Golden Gate Canyon State Park, Rocky Mountain National Park,Matthews/Winters Park and Chatauqua Park to name a few. All have miles of trails and facilities for picnics and parking.

Biking

Mountain biking is also well-served, with over 850 miles of trails stretching across the state. Colorado also has a range of bike-specific trails, downhills and jump tracks for you to enjoy should you feel brave.

Notable biking areas include Apex Park, Barr Lake State Park, Betasso Preserve Mountain Bike Trail and Red Rocks Trail.

Golf

No outdoor city would be complete without a few golf courses. How would business ever get done without them? Fortunately Denver has a collection of high quality golf courses for players of all levels.

Sites for fishermen include; Boxwood Gulch on the S. Platte, Farmers Union on the South Platte, Waterton Canyon, South Boulder Creek and Clear Creek.
