There are five major military installations here with many supporting industries around. They are NORAD, the Air Force Academy, Fort Carson, Peterson AFB and Schriever AFB.
Stationed in any of the following bases listed below? Need furnished temporary housing? We can help!
NORAD
NORAD, or North American Aerospace Defense Command, is located underneath Cheyenne Mountain southwest of the city. It’s a command and control center for all branches of the military from the United States and Canada to protect all of North America and even includes space!
Air Force Academy
The Air Force Academy is a major training base for Air Force personnel. It has a large contingent of officers and enlisted and employs thousands of civilians too. Servicemen leaving the Air Force Academy go on to work on other U.S. bases across the world, including those others around Colorado Springs.
Fort Carson
Fort Carson sit on 137,000 acres of land south of Colorado Springs. It’s home to 20,000 personnel and concerns itself mainly with training and development. Founded in 1942, the base has grown steadily to its current size and is a large presence in the area.
Peterson Air Force Base
Peterson Air Force Base is a support and control base with strong links to NORAD. It used to be a fighter training base and civilian airport before becoming purely Air Force. With various units, including airlift and combat rotating in and out of it, Peterson Air Force Base is a very busy place.
Schriever Air Force Base
Schriever Air Force Base is another command support base with strong links to both NORAD and Peterson AFB. It houses various units concerned with space operations and is home to CSOC, the Combined Space Operations Center.
Colorado Springs has a high military presence that contributes heavily to our economy. If it isn’t the military itself, it’s the hundreds of supporting industries, as well as those that offer civilian variants of posts for retired service men and women. It isn’t unusual to see uniforms in and around the city and we are rightly proud to have them here with us.
If you’re being stationed at any of these installations and need somewhere to live while you find your feet, we’re here to help.
